Stip is a desktop app that reminds you to stand up and drink water. It doesn't collect, send or sell any personal data.
What Stip collects
Nothing. Stip has no account, no analytics, no ads, no crash reporting and no tracking. The app makes no network requests at all.
What Stip stores on your computer
Stip saves two small files in its own app data folder, so it can remember your choices between launches:
- Settings: how often to remind you, break length, theme, working hours and similar choices.
- Stats: how many breaks you took, skipped or snoozed and at what hour, your longest stretch of sitting, and how many glasses of water you logged, by day.
These files never leave your computer. Uninstalling Stip, or deleting its app data folder, removes them.
Knowing when you're busy
So a break doesn't land at a bad moment, Stip checks two things, on your computer only:
- Names of running programs: to spot a live call, such as Zoom's call process, or a running build, such as a compiler.
- How long the computer has been idle: to find a natural pause in your work.
Stip doesn't record or send any of this. It never sees what you type, and never accesses your camera, microphone or screen contents.
The stip command
The optional stip terminal command talks to the app over a private socket on your own computer. Nothing goes over the network.
Spine report and your commits
The weekly Spine report is built on your computer from your own stats. If you choose to add project folders, Stip reads the time and message of your recent git commits in those folders to compare them with your breaks. That stays in memory and is never uploaded. It's off until you add a folder.
The website
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages and loads fonts from Google Fonts. Like any web host, GitHub and Google may log basic request details such as your IP address. The site itself uses no cookies, analytics or tracking.
Children
Stip collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Stip is open source, so you can check what it does in the source code.
